The U.S. Supreme Court has turned down a legal challenge to the Trump administration's tariffs on imported steel sought by the American Institute for International Steel, CNBC reported.

AIIS and two U.S. businesses sued the administration last year, arguing the law President Donald Trump used to impose the tariffs violated the constitutional prohibition against transfer of powers between Congress and the executive branch. However, the U.S. Court of International Trade rejected the lawsuit in March, pointing to a 1976 Supreme Court case—Algonquin SNG Inc. v. Federal Energy Administration—it said had already determined the constitutionality of the law in question.

The Supreme Court issued an order on Monday in which it declined to hear AIIS's appeal of the lower court's decision, according to CNBC. There were no dissents among the justices.

AIIS has argued in the past that the 25% tariffs imposed by the administration jeopardizes the jobs of hundreds of thousands of Americans whose industries rely on imported steel. The group did not have any immediate reaction to the court's decision as of Monday morning. https://cnb.cx/2N9U89p
